How do you find out if a manufactured home in Illinois was moved?
In Illinois, the Department of Public Health oversees manufactured home installation, which makes it the first place to ask about how and when a home was set. The title and the county's land records fill in the rest.
Where the records are
- Installation. The Illinois Department of Public Health runs the state's program for manufactured and modular homes, through its Environmental Health Protection office.
- Title records. The home's title names the office that issued it. Ask that office for the title history, and look for an earlier owner or address.
- County records. The recorder in the county where the home sits keeps what has been recorded against the land, including any filing that tied the home to it.
- The home itself. When the paper trail stops, an engineer inspects the home and reports what the installation shows.
